SUPPORT SERVICES
Support Services created and performed by community members will be in place to assist residents during emergency events until emergency response and recovery workers are able to get to Red Hook. Each support service, listed below, will be set up at a specific location in Red Hook.
COMMUNICATIONS
Red Hook Initiative : 767 Hicks Street
The Communications support service will be a space for collecting and distributing information before, during, and after an emergency event. This will include information about what services are available, and where and when they can be found. The Communications team will also work to keep information flowing among the various support services. Communication services will begin after the City’s first notice of an oncoming emergency.
FOOD AND SHELTER
Visitation Church : 98 Richards Street
The Food and Shelter support service will help coordinate the collection, preparation and distribution of food and water in the event that regular supplies are interrupted. Before an event, they will also help plan to ensure emergency supplies are available. They will also help locate shelter for individuals who are unable to stay in their homes, or need assistance to return home. Food and Shelter will open 12 hours after the event or as soon as possible.
HEALTH AND MEDICAL
GSS Miccio Center : 110 West 9th Street
The Health and Medical support service will help ensure that basic first aid is available after an emergency, and perform triage to direct those in need of care to available providers. The Health and Medical team will also perform wellness checks for those individuals who may need follow-up care, or who may be unable to leave their homes to obtain care. Health and Medical services will open 12 hours after the emergency.
COMMUNITY RESPONSE TEAMS
GSS Miccio Center : 110 West 9th Street
Community Response Teams will perform basic search and rescue activities after an emergency to attempt to locate individuals who may be trapped in place, or in need of special care. They will be trained in basic first aid to be able to provide assistance on-site if needed. The Community Response Team will start providing assistance when a mandatory evacuation is issued.
UTILITIES
Ikea : 1 Beard Street
The Utilities support service will work to support restoring electricity, water, gas and heating oil, and telephone services in the event of an interruption. They will help identify locations where service is interrupted, and coordinate with service providers to make repairs. The Utilities support service will open 36 hours after the emergency.
COORDINATION
Ikea : 1 Beard Street
The Coordination support service will help manage response activities that involve multiple support services, and ensure resources are used efficiently. They will also support volunteer management, donations of supplies, and transportation. This support team will also coordinate with local leaders including police and fire departments, other government agencies, and elected officials. Coordination services will begin after the City’s first notice of an oncoming emergency.
