How do I find out important information and receive notifications?

In the event of the loss of internet and power, you can stay up-to-date by calling the Red Hook Initiative at 718-858-6782, or visiting the Red Hook Initiative or the Red Hook HUB’s physical locations at the GSS Miccio Center and the Red Hook Public Library. Where do I find out about the latest weather advisories?

Check local TV news and radio stations, visit National Weather Service at www.weather.gov.

 

How can I share information?

Post relevant info on Twitter using the hashtag #readyredhook, online at redhookwifi.org and redhookhub.org. Information can also be shared by posting it to the Red Hook Hub’s physical locations at the GSS Miccio Center and the Red Hook Public Library.

 

My house was damaged during the emergency, where do I go?

Head to the Food + Shelter support services located at Visitation Church, there you will be directed to temporary shelter.

 

All my food is spoiled, where can I get something to eat?

Go to the Food + Shelter support services located at Visitation Church. Other local churches may have food as well, check with Communications to find the food closest to you.

 

I have food to donate. Where should I take it?

Donate food to Visitation Church or to Coordination at IKEA.

 

Where do I go if I am hurt?

Medical assistance will be provided at the GSS Miccio Center, starting 12 hours after the event. The closest hospital is New York Methodist at 506 6th Street in Brooklyn. The Addabbo Clinic at 120 Richards Street may also be open.

 

I need medicine, where can I get it?

If you are unable to visit or contact your healthcare provider, go to the Health + Medical station at the GSS Miccio Center. Bring your prescription with you, if you have it.

 

I am missing a family member, what should I do?

Report missing and or trapped people to the Health + Medical team.

 

I am medically trained, how can I help?

Talk to the Health + Medical team.

 

What if I am trapped in my apartment?

Hang a bed sheet out your window; be certain to tie it securely to the building. The sheet will alert the Community Response Team that you are trapped in your apartment and need help. .

 

How do I report damage that I see on my block?

Use the #readyredhook hashtag or walk over to the Community Response Team at the GSS Miccio Center. If appropriate, you should also call 311.

 

I would like to be part of the Community Response Team, who do I contact? Do I need special training?

Contact RHI to join the Local Leaders program, which is an emergency response preparedness group.

 

I have no power and/or heat , now what do I do?

Report it to the Utilities support service located at IKEA, and call 311. If you are unable to stay in your home because of the weather, visit the Food and Shelter location.

 

What do I do if there is a gas leak?

If you smell gas, leave the premises immediately and take others with you. Open windows before you leave if the odor is faint. If you are outdoors, get well away from where you smell the natural gas. Do not do anything to create a spark that could cause an explosion, such as lighting a match, starting a car, turning on appliances, lights, or flashlights on or off, using a telephone or cell phone, and ringing doorbells. Report the gas leak to the Utilities team at IKEA. Additionally call 311 to report the leak.

 

Where can I charge my phone?

Utilities is the primary charging station. All support services locations should also have charging equipment, so you may be able to go to a location closer to your home, check the map.

 

I need to evacuate, can I get a ride out of Red Hook?

Public transit is the best option, but may not be available as the emergency develops. If you need assistance or instructions for alternative ways to evacuate visit the Communications team at RHI or the Coordination team at IKEA, both which will be activated once an evacuation notice has been issued.

 

I have food and clothes to donate, where should I take them?

Food and clothing donations can be dropped off at the Coordination location at IKEA; food donations can also be taken to Food and Shelter at Visitation Church. You can also check with them as to what is most needed given the specifics of the emergency.

 

How do I volunteer?

I have a car, where should I go to volunteer my services and vehicle?  

Report to the people at Coordination.

 

Where can I get candles, generators, flashlights after the event?

Emergency supplies will be available for distribution, depending on availability.

 

How do I get involved in planning before, or after the disaster?

Talk to people at either the Coordination or Communications locations.

 

How do I know if the support service locations are up to date?

This website will have the latest support service location information [do we want this in here?] or call the Red Hook Initiative at ­­­­­­718-858-6782. For latest, up to the minute updates, check in at the Hub, redhookhub.org or redhookwifi.org.

 

What is the Hub?

The Hub is a public communications system that helps inform, connect and engage the Red Hook community. People share and access neighborhood information in a range of formats at the Hub’s main physical locations at the Public Library and the GSS Miccio Center. Other Hublets and Hub tickers are located throughout the neighborhood, in addition to the online platform at www.redhookhub.org.
